This makes early experiences—especially those involving nurturing and support—fundamental to a child’s cognitive, emotional, and social development.
At Home-Start, we work alongside families in Watford, Three Rivers, and Hertsmere to provide compassionate, confidential support during these formative years. By intervening early, we help children achieve important milestones, build a strong foundation for learning, and reduce the risk of future challenges. This proactive approach not only benefits the child but also strengthens family bonds and enhances overall wellbeing
Amina, a mother of six caring for four children at home, was struggling to manage her own health and wellbeing alongside her children’s needs, including those with SEND. She was matched with a Home-Visiting Volunteer who visited weekly, offering practical support and, most importantly, a listening ear.
Over time, Amina built a trusting relationship with her volunteer, finding reassurance and encouragement while navigating her children’s education and behaviour. With guidance and emotional support, school attendance and behaviour improved, and one child successfully received an EHCP. Amina valued having someone who saw her as an individual, not just as a parent, and reported feeling more confident and positive about her family life.
